About

Built by people who file the same forms you do.

Last updated 2026-07-18

TaxGhost started from a familiar sting: an RSU vest that looked like a windfall in June and turned into a five-figure balance due the following April. The information to predict that bill existed the day the shares vested — it just wasn't in front of the person who owed it.

What TaxGhost is

TaxGhost is tax monitoring software for people whose income doesn't arrive in equal monthly slices — equity compensation, stock sales, freelance and variable income. It computes your federal tax position as the year unfolds, using the same 2026 IRS parameters your CPA will use, and flags the moments that change your bill while there is still time to act.

What TaxGhost is not

TaxGhost is not a CPA, an enrolled agent, or a tax attorney. It does not prepare or file your return, does not represent you before the IRS, and does not give tax advice. It gives you accurate, sourced estimates so you can walk into a conversation with a professional — or into April — already knowing the number.

How the numbers are made

Every figure on this site comes from one calculation engine: a set of deterministic, tested functions that implement the 2026 federal rules. The engine implements the federal brackets, long-term capital gains stacking under §1(h), the 3.8% net investment income tax under §1411, FICA, supplemental withholding, and the §6654 underpayment safe harbors. Parameters come from the IRS publications listed in the methodology, and every page shows the tax year and update date for its figures.

Editorial standards

  • Every quantitative claim links to a primary source — the IRC, an IRS publication, or the engine itself.
  • Features are labeled live or planned. Unbuilt infrastructure is never presented as working product.
  • No fake testimonials, no stock-photo “customers,” no invented statistics.
  • Estimates are labeled as estimates. Where the engine excludes something (state tax, AMT detail, itemized deductions), the exclusion is stated next to the result.

Privacy as a design constraint

The calculators and the current monitor run entirely in your browser. Your income figures are stored on your device, not on our servers — there is nothing to sell, leak, or subpoena. When connected accounts ship, they will be read-only, and the data handling will be documented in the trust center before the first connection goes live.
