This is not tax advice
The calculators and estimates on this site are educational tools that apply publicly published tax law to the numbers you enter. They are not tax advice, and they are not a substitute for a return prepared and signed by a licensed tax professional. A material difference can exist between an estimate and the tax shown on a completed return, because a return captures facts an online calculator cannot.
Under Treasury Department Circular 230, the written statements on this site are not a “covered opinion” and may not be relied upon by any taxpayer to avoid U.S. federal tax penalties. If you need advice on which you can rely for that purpose, engage a CPA, enrolled agent, or tax attorney licensed to provide it.
What the numbers are, and are not
Each estimate is a point-in-time projection using tax-year 2026 parameters and the exact inputs you supplied on the day you ran it. It assumes:
- You take the standard deduction unless the calculator offers an itemized input.
- No alternative minimum tax (AMT) unless the tool states otherwise; AMT can change a result materially at higher incomes.
- No state or local tax unless a state field is explicitly present.
- Federal figures only; state brackets, surtaxes, and safe harbors differ and are not inferred.
- That the inputs you entered are complete and correct for your situation, which we cannot verify.
The engine is deterministic and versioned (see methodology). The version and update date printed on each result are the authoritative record of how that number was produced.
Protection of your tax return information (IRC §7216)
The free calculators perform computation in your browser and do not transmit your income figures to TaxGhost servers in order to produce an estimate. IRC §7216 makes it a federal offense for a tax preparer to knowingly or recklessly disclose or use tax return information outside the scope of what a taxpayer has authorized. We design the product so that estimates can be produced without that disclosure happening at all.
If you later create an account or send us information for monitoring, that use is governed by the consent you give in our terms and described in our privacy policy. We do not sell tax return information.
FTC Safeguards Rule
TaxGhost handles nonpublic personal financial information and is built to the controls described by the Federal Trade Commission’s Safeguards Rule (16 CFR §314): encryption in transit and at rest, least-privilege access, and an incident response plan. We model our program on the Rule’s requirements; we do not claim, and no regulator awards, a “certification” under it. Read the specifics on the trust center.
Accuracy and corrections
Tax law changes. Bracket figures are updated after the IRS publishes annual inflation adjustments. When an error is found in the engine, it is corrected, the engine version is incremented, and the change is recorded in the changelog. We do not silently revise published formulas.
